Privacy Policy
1. Overview
Slow Blink is a private archive for the cats you live with, made by German Amaya ("German Amaya," "we," "us," or "our"). It lets you record each cat's identity, health record, episodes of illness or recovery, photos, notes and scanned veterinary paperwork. This Privacy Policy explains what information Slow Blink handles, why, where it is stored, and what control you have over it.
Slow Blink has no account system and no sign-up screen, because there is nothing to sign up to. There is no German Amaya server. The app performs no network requests of its own: it contains no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or attribution software of any kind. Everything you record stays on your device and, when iCloud is enabled, synchronizes through the private iCloud database tied to your own Apple Account.
Important distinction. Deleting the Slow Blink app from a device removes the app and its local data from that device. It does not, by itself, delete data already synchronized to your private iCloud database. See Section 9 for how to delete everything.
2. Information Slow Blink handles
Slow Blink handles only what it needs to keep your cats' archive, take and store photos, generate a Vet Brief, and process a subscription.
| Category | Examples | Purpose | Where it is handled |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cat records | Names, sex, age band, neuter status, the date a cat joined your household, and your own notes. | To build and display each cat's chronicle. | On your device and, when iCloud sync is available and enabled, in your private iCloud database. |
| Care records and episodes | Vaccines, weights, conditions, medications, symptoms, vet visits, treatments, and the dated timeline of an episode. | To keep a chronological health history and produce the Vet Brief. | Same as above. This information is about your animal and is entered entirely by you. |
| Photos and attachments | Photos you take in the app or choose from your library, and files or scanned documents you attach to an episode. | To display them in the chronicle and attach evidence to an episode. | Copied into Slow Blink's own storage on your device, and synchronized to your private iCloud database when enabled. |
| Custom sound cues | Short audio clips you optionally record to get a cat's attention during a photo session. | To play back your own cue while photographing. | Stored only in Slow Blink's local application-support folder on that device. Cues are not synchronized to iCloud. |
| Free-period marker | Two dates: when your free period began and the most recent date the app has observed. | To run the 14-day free period fairly and prevent it from restarting on reinstall. | In your device Keychain and, as a date, alongside your app state. It contains no personal information. |
| Subscription status | Whether Apple StoreKit reports an active, expired or restored entitlement. | To unlock the features included with a subscription. | Processed by Apple StoreKit and the App Store. Slow Blink never sees your card or payment-account details. |
| Support correspondence | Your email address and whatever you choose to include when you write to slowblinkapp@gmail.com. | To answer you, troubleshoot, and keep a support record. | In our support mailbox and related records. |
Notes, symptoms and captions are free-text fields. Please do not enter information that you would not want held in your own private archive.
3. About your cat's health information
Slow Blink stores clinical information about an animal: vaccines, diagnoses, medications, weights, symptoms and scanned documents from your veterinary practice. This is information about your cat, not about a human patient, and it is entered by you and held under your control.
It is never transmitted to us, never analyzed, never used to train anything, and never combined with information from other users. We have no technical ability to read it: it is held on your device and in your private iCloud database, and Slow Blink has no server that could receive a copy.
Slow Blink is a personal record, not your veterinarian's clinical file. It does not replace the records your practice keeps, and it does not provide veterinary advice. See the Terms of Use for that distinction.
4. iCloud synchronization
Slow Blink uses Apple CloudKit to synchronize your archive between your own devices when iCloud is signed in, available for Slow Blink, and synchronization succeeds. It uses the private CloudKit database associated with your Apple Account. This is not a shared or public database: your archive is not visible to other Slow Blink users, and it is not visible to us.
iCloud availability, account status, network connectivity, storage capacity, device settings and Apple service availability all affect whether and when changes synchronize. Sync is not instantaneous; a device that has been offline may briefly show an older local copy until it reconnects.
Apple provides these services under its own terms and privacy practices. You can manage iCloud for Slow Blink in your device settings under your Apple Account. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
Not a guaranteed archive. You remain responsible for any additional records or backups that matter to you. Slow Blink does not guarantee that iCloud synchronization or a device restore will preserve every item in every circumstance. For anything medically important, keep the original documents from your veterinary practice.
5. Camera, photo library, microphone and document scanning
Photos
Slow Blink accesses your camera when you use its photo features, and your photo library only for the specific photos you choose. Unlike some apps, Slow Blink stores a copy of the photo inside its own storage rather than a reference to your library. That has two consequences worth knowing: deleting the original from Apple Photos will not break anything in Slow Blink, and the copies do count toward your device and iCloud storage. Photos you add are never uploaded anywhere except your own private iCloud database.
Microphone
The microphone is used for one optional purpose: recording your own short sound cue to get a cat's attention during a photo session. Recording happens only when you explicitly start it. The resulting clips stay in Slow Blink's local storage on that device, are not synchronized to iCloud, are never transmitted anywhere, and can be deleted from within the app. Slow Blink does not listen in the background and performs no speech or audio recognition.
Document scanning
Scanning veterinary paperwork uses Apple's on-device document scanner. The scan is processed by your device and saved as an attachment in your archive. No image is sent to us or to any third-party service for processing.
6. The Vet Brief
The Vet Brief is a PDF that Slow Blink assembles from the information already in your archive. It is generated entirely on your device. It is not uploaded, not emailed automatically, and not sent to any veterinary network or third party.
Once generated, you decide what happens to it through the standard iOS share sheet. Anything you send to a clinic, a family member or a messaging app leaves Slow Blink's control and is then governed by whatever service you chose to send it through.
7. Free period, subscriptions and purchases
Slow Blink gives you 14 days of full access, counted from the moment you register your first cat. That free period is administered by the app itself, not by an App Store introductory offer, and it requires no payment card and no account.
To keep the free period fair, Slow Blink stores two dates in your device Keychain: when the period started and the most recent date the app has seen. The Keychain survives deletion and reinstallation of the app, which is why reinstalling does not grant a second free period. These entries contain dates only — no name, no identifier, and no information about you or your cats.
Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit under your Apple Account. Slow Blink does not collect or store card numbers, bank details or billing credentials. Manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple Account subscription settings; refunds are handled by Apple under its own policies.
8. What Slow Blink does not do
- Slow Blink does not sell or share your personal information.
- Slow Blink contains no third-party analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or attribution SDKs.
- Slow Blink does not track you across apps, websites or services, and requests no tracking permission.
- Slow Blink has no developer-operated server and makes no network requests of its own — its only network activity is Apple's own iCloud synchronization and StoreKit purchase handling, performed by the operating system.
- Slow Blink does not require an account, an email address, or a phone number to work.
- Slow Blink does not read, analyze, profile or train any model on your cats' records.
9. Retention, deletion and your choices
Your archive
Your archive stays on your device until you delete it. Slow Blink includes a Delete all app data control in Settings that removes every cat, chronicle, care record, episode, photo, attachment and Understanding progress record, and queues the same deletions for iCloud. Deletions propagate to your other devices as they synchronize.
Deleting the app, signing out of iCloud, or turning iCloud off for Slow Blink is not the same as deleting synchronized records. To remove your archive everywhere, use Delete all app data from within the app and let the device synchronize before removing it.
Sound cues and the free-period marker
Custom sound cues are local to each device and can be deleted individually in the app. The free-period dates in the Keychain intentionally survive app deletion; they are removed when you erase or restore the device.
Support correspondence
We keep support emails and related records for no longer than 24 months after our last meaningful exchange with you, unless a longer period is reasonably necessary to resolve a dispute, protect our rights, prevent abuse or comply with law. You can ask us to delete them by writing to slowblinkapp@gmail.com.
10. When information is shared
We do not share your archive with anyone. Information is processed by the following services only as needed to provide a feature you chose to use:
- Apple iCloud and CloudKit: private synchronization of your archive across your own devices.
- Apple App Store and StoreKit: purchases, subscription entitlements and subscription management.
- Email providers: only when you voluntarily contact support.
We may disclose support correspondence where required by law, to protect rights or safety, or to respond to valid legal process. We never use such disclosure for advertising or profiling.
11. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of, or portability for personal information we hold. In practice, we hold almost nothing: your archive is controlled directly by you in the app and in your own private iCloud account, and the only information in our possession is support correspondence you chose to send us.
For a privacy request, write to slowblinkapp@gmail.com. We may need to verify your request, and may limit or decline it where applicable law permits. Where information exists only inside your private Apple iCloud account, we will explain the control available to you through Slow Blink, your device settings or Apple, because we have no way to reach it ourselves.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with similar rights, you may also complain to your local data-protection authority. Where applicable, our legal bases are performance of our agreement with you to provide Slow Blink, your consent for the permissions you choose to grant, and our legitimate interest in answering support requests and complying with law.
12. Security
Slow Blink is designed so that there is nothing for us to secure: your records never reach us. They are protected by your device's own protections and, when synchronized, by Apple's iCloud security. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed. Protect your device passcode and your Apple Account, and keep your software up to date.
13. Children's privacy
Slow Blink is intended for a general audience, is not directed to children under 13, and is not offered in the App Store Kids Category. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information by email, write to slowblinkapp@gmail.com so we can address it.
14. International processing
Apple may process iCloud and App Store data through its global infrastructure under its own terms. Support email may be processed by email providers in the locations where they operate. By using Slow Blink you understand that this limited information may be processed in countries other than the one where you live, subject to applicable law.
15. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this policy when Slow Blink's features or legal requirements change. The revised version will be posted here with an updated "Last updated" date. If a change materially affects how information is handled, we will give additional notice where the law requires it.
